I’ve known some lonesome places that you never really come back from. You might think that you have come back in one piece, but you slowly start to realize that there were so many things you had to lose or shed or amputate in order to get out alive, and those things are all irrecoverable. You had to leave them behind. If you’re lucky, really lucky, they were things that can grow back. But usually they’re not.
