Would you know
what I meant
if I told you that
when I woke up
this morning
for the first time
in a long time
I felt just like an
ampersand?

 

 

She said,

"Did you know
that you curl up
like a question mark
when you're asleep?"

I paused for a moment
suspended
over the event horizon

before I threw myself
headfirst
into the crushing gravity
of your love

hoping you would not
just swallow me up
like all the others

wishing you would
tear me apart
quark by quark

praying
like hell
it would hurt

 

 

All I wanted
was to build
something beautiful
for you...

Sure, it's funny now -
how I didn't realize
when I started
that I was only creating
a marvelous joke.

 

I pay no mind
to the telephone
ringing.
